Sat2200 (competing for a Red Dot Award in 2017) is a product consisting out of 2 modules, an ILB2220 and an MDM2210, making it possible to have IP communication anywhere on the planet with just some electricity and a small satellite dish. Linked to the new generation Ka-band satellites, a high speed internet can be brought to even the most remote areas.
In the course of this 1,5-year-long project at Newtec, located in Sint-Niklaas (BE), we combined electronics, RF waveguides and mechanical parts into a IP68 high tech, but low cost product. This project was made possible with the passion, experience and knowledge from Moebius Design together with the teams of Newtec. A strong co-design was needed to fulfill the requirements in the tight time frame. Each RF filter, amplifier, RF switch, connector, power supply circuit and detail was cut into multiple small breadboards, consisting out of a combination of mechanical and electronic components. Each workable breadboard was integrated in fully functional prototypes with all mass-production features for in-depth verifications. In parallel the detailed design of precise aluminum and zamak die cast parts, custom connectors, injection-molded internals and external shell were created, together with a good supplier feedback.
Working with a new young Moebius Design talent, Bram Van Balen, the exterior of this ILB2220 got a brand-new, fresh and strong look, that is carried forward to the new generation wide band modem MDM2210: a solid combination of electronics, sturdy housing and user-friendly installation features. Risk assessments, brainstorms and design reviews made it possible to design, prototype and release these products in a tight time frame. On top of the design we also played a role in all production-related assembly jigs used in the production facility in the Philippines.
